Moving and Packing Tips useful for planning your next move
At Omega Toronto Moving Services, we encourage eco-friendly moves and lifestyles that lessen the negative impacts our society has on the environment. When you are preparing for a move, please consider the options available to protect the environment.
Before the move, you should get organized and sort through your possessions. Determine what is being moved, and what is being disposed. For disposal, you should organize items into three main categories: Recyclable, Hazardous Waste, and Non-hazardous/Non-recyclable.
- Recyclable materials include: aluminum, paper, and appliances.
- Hazardous Waste includes: paints, oil, pesticides, dyes, and coolants.
- Non-hazardous/Non-recyclable includes just about everything else, or general garbage.
For all three categories, you should contact the Solid Waste Division in your county for disposal instructions and transfer stations in your area.
Thanks for your consideration for the environment. In addition to proper waste disposal, we recommend the following guidelines for you to consider.
- Sweep instead of hosing down driveways.
- Use sand, or kitty litter, instead of salt on icy sidewalks.
- Retain as much vegetation and rural wetlands on your property as possible.
- Use water-based products rather than solvent-based.
- Use mulch and organic fertilizers instead of pesticides.
- Mow lawn frequently to increase grass shoot density.
- Recycle whenever possible.
- Rinse disposable diapers before throwing them away.
- Turn off the water while brushing teeth.
- Recycle cardboard boxes.
- Use phosphate-free laundry detergent.
- Recycle and dispose of oil safely.
- Keep your car tuned.
- Wash your car on grass.
- Don't litter on the roadways.
